What Makes Courchevel
Different to Drive
Courchevel is not one resort but four villages stacked up a mountain, from Le Praz at around 1300 metres to Courchevel 1850 at the top. The number in the name is the altitude, and it decides everything: which road you take, how long the final climb adds, and whether a vehicle without proper tyres will make it at all. Telling a driver you are going to Courchevel and nothing more is how people end up at the wrong village with luggage.
Winter tyres are a legal requirement in the mountain communes from November to March, and chains have to be carried. This is the single most common failure with a car booked cheaply from the valley: it arrives without them, and it is turned back at the bottom of the climb. Our vehicles are equipped for the season, and the drivers have made the ascent before.
The other constraint is the day of the week. Saturday is transfer day across the Alps, when every arrival and every departure happens at once, and a journey that takes two and a half hours on a Tuesday can take twice that.

The resort has its own altiport at 1850, with a short sloped runway used by light aircraft and helicopters. The car meets you at the top rather than in the valley.
The season runs from December to April and the peaks are predictable: Christmas and New Year, the February school holidays across three countries, and the closing weeks in April. In those periods we place chauffeurs in the valley for the duration rather than sending a car up for each journey, because a vehicle already at altitude is worth more than a faster one still climbing.
