Cannes is a small town that behaves like a large one for about ten weeks a year. Everything turns on the Palais des Festivals and the Croisette in front of it, and during a major event that stretch is closed, filtered or reserved for accredited vehicles. The address on the invitation is rarely where a car can actually stop. Knowing the working drop-off points, the service entrances behind the Croisette and the rules that apply to each of them is most of what a chauffeur is for in this town.
Cannes has no commercial airport of its own. Nice Côte d'Azur is around 27 km east, half an hour on the A8 when it flows and appreciably more when the coast fills, and Cannes Mandelieu, a few kilometres west, takes business aviation. Which one you land at changes the whole shape of the day, and during the festivals Mandelieu is often the difference between arriving in time for a screening and arriving after it.
The rest of the year Cannes is quiet, the Croisette is open, and the town is a base for the western Riviera rather than a destination that has to be negotiated.
16 to 19 March 2027 at the Palais des Festivals. The property market fills every hotel between Cannes and Antibes and puts most of its meetings on the Croisette.
Mid-May, and the fortnight when the town is least drivable. Accreditation governs access to the Croisette, and timings shift with the screenings.
June and October respectively. Shorter and less closed than the Film Festival, but the same pressure on cars and the same need to book the week rather than the journey.
In festival weeks we do not take single journeys in Cannes, and we would rather say so plainly. A car booked by the trip cannot reach you when the Croisette is closed and every hotel forecourt is full. What works is a chauffeur assigned for the duration, briefed on your accreditation and your screening times, with the pick-up points agreed before you land. It costs less than the alternative, which is missing things.
