What Makes Alicante
Different to Drive
Alicante is the gateway to the Costa Blanca rather than a destination that has to be negotiated, and that shapes the whole service. The airport is close, the motorway network along the coast is good, and almost everything a client wants is within an hour of the terminal. What matters here is not access but distance, and knowing which of the coastal roads is worth taking in August.
Spain applies its environmental labelling system nationally, and the larger municipalities operate low emission zones read by camera, with foreign plates needing registration to be recognised. Our vehicles are labelled and registered. The old town of Alicante, around the Explanada and up towards Santa Cruz beneath the castle, is narrow and largely pedestrian, so the working stop is the seafront rather than the door.
The coast itself is the point. Everything from Denia down to Torrevieja is a comfortable transfer, and the inland towns are closer than they look.
The airport sits about 10 km south west of the city, fast to reach and rarely congested outside the summer changeover Saturdays.
Altea, Calpe, Moraira and Javea, between forty minutes and an hour and a quarter north. The last stretches to the villas are narrow and steep.
An hour or so south, and the practical alternative airport at Corvera for some routes.
Around 170 km north, roughly two hours on the motorway. Frequent enough to price as a package rather than a long journey.
Alicante has a summer and it has the rest of the year, and the difference is total. From late June to early September the coastal roads carry several times their normal load, the changeover Saturdays saturate the airport, and a transfer that takes forty minutes in May takes ninety in August. We plan around those Saturdays specifically, because they are the only genuinely difficult days in an otherwise straightforward region.
