Barcelona's low emission zone covers everything inside the ring roads, the Rondes, and it runs around the clock including holidays. It works on the Spanish environmental label rather than on the hour of day, and it reaches beyond the city proper into neighbouring municipalities. Foreign plates need registering to be recognised. Our vehicles are compliant and registered, which is worth more here than in most cities because the zone has no gaps to slip through.
Above that, Barcelona is a grid, and the grid lies. The Eixample looks navigable on a map and is a sequence of one-way blocks with chamfered corners where stopping blocks a lane. The old city, the Gothic Quarter and Born, is largely closed to cars altogether. What matters is knowing which corner of which block a car can hold for ninety seconds, and that is not something a map will tell you.

The main exhibition site sits at L'Hospitalet, away from the centre. During the big shows the approach roads are the whole problem.
