Lisbon is a small capital built on seven hills, and the hills decide everything a car can and cannot do. Here is what a prepared arrival looks like.
The airport has two terminals in separate buildings, and Terminal 2 handles part of the low cost traffic with its own access. The terminal is confirmed with your flight before you land.
In Alfama and the Bairro Alto the streets are narrow, steep and sometimes stepped. We agree the nearest point a car can reach and tell you honestly how far the door is, instead of finding out with your luggage.
Trams share the same narrow lanes and they do not give way. A chauffeur who works this city plans around them rather than meeting them head on.
Cascais is around half an hour along the coast, Sintra about forty minutes and Comporta an hour and a half. The same driver for the day removes the problem of finding transport in places where it is scarce.
The Web Summit in November fills every hotel and every road in the city at once. That week is arranged long in advance, not on arrival.
